On Tuesday, December 10, the Oles matched up against the Hamline Pipers at the Coliseum in St. Paul. After losing to the Pipers earlier in the season, the Oles went into this game with a win mentality.

The Oles got off to an early lead with a goal off the face-off at 1:13 in the first period. Kate Barnett (So, Burnsville, Minn.) scored unassisted. The Oles continued to dominate the first period with another goal at 9:55. Lindsay Weier (Fr, Menomonie, Wis.) scored on the power play with the assist from Sarah Ray (Jr, St. Paul, Minn.). The Oles had another power play goal at 11:57 in the first period. Erin Baxter (So, Rosemount, Minn.) scored with the assists from Weier and Ray. In the first period, the Oles had a total of 17 shots on goal and held the Pipers to 8 shots on goal.

The second period was another good offensive effort by the Oles, putting 16 shots on goal. Defensively, the Oles kept the Pipers to only 5 shots on goal. However, there was no scoring in the second period.

The Oles had another tremendous offensive effort in the third period with at total of 24 shots on goal. At 8:05 in the third, Barnett scored her second goal of the evening with the assist from Baxter. One minute later, at 9:05, the Oles scored again, bringing the score to 5-0. Kayla Wente (So, Waterloo, Iowa) scored with the assist from Melissa Mueller (Fr, Lakeville, Minn.). Late in the third, the Oles received two minor penalties, resulting in a 5-on-3 power play for Hamline, threatening to take away the shutout the defense worked for. However, strong defensive efforts by Ray and Barnett killed the penalties without sacrificing a goal.

The Oles won the game 5-0 with a total of 57 shots on goal. Ole goaltender, Amanda Chumbley (Sr, Menomonee Falls, Wis.) had a total of 19 saves. The Oles will take a break for finals and the holidays and return for their next game is January 3, 2003. They will face UW-Superior at 5pm at the Northfield Ice Arena.
