The St Olaf wresting team met the Cornell College wrestling team in Iowa Wednesday, December 11 at 7:00 pm for a dual meet. To reduce travel time, both schools met in New Hampton, Iowa at the high school for the match. The Oles defeated Cornell 31-24 in an exciting match-up.

Jason Escala (FY, Maplewood, Minn.) received a forfeit at 125 pounds. Cornell also received a forfeit at heavyweight. Phil Simondet (FY, Minneapolis, Minn.) defeated Dylan Hagen 7-2 at 141 pounds. Alex Morf (Sr, Mt. Vernon, Iowa) beat Mike Gabeheart with a pin at 3:57 at 149 pounds. Jason Moore (FY, Brooklyn Park, Minn.) pinned Jay Simon in 7:57 at 165 pounds. This win gave the Oles a lead that they would hold on to for the rest of the match.

However, the Oles needed some crucial wins to accomplish this. Skipp Sandberg (FY, Northfield, Minn.) and Anthony Rogers (So, St. Paul, Minn.) both won great matches. Sandberg beat Blue Aldridge 12-3 at 174 pounds. Rogers defeated Rich Willemstein at 184 pounds by injury default. This secured the Oles? lead and win with a score of 31-24.

Next up, St Olaf will host UW-Eau Claire at 7:00p.m., Wednesay, Jan. 8 in the Skoglund Center.
