St. Olaf men's tennis ends week with two wins, one loss
April 8, 2002
The men's tennis team played three matches the first week of April. They started out with a 7-2 victory over conference opponent, St. Johns. Highlights of the match included the continued strong play of number one singles player, Karl Wilbur who defeated Mike Solum, a talented St. John's player. The Oles were 4-2 in conference after this match.
On Saturday, April 6th, the men's team traveled to the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse to battle regional foes, Ripon College and the host school, University of Wisconsin LaCrosse. The Oles defeated Ripon 6-1 in their first match. It was the first meeting between the two schools in over twelve years. The match was the first outdoor match that the Oles have played this year in the Midwest.
The second match was played in the University's fieldhouse. It was an excellent match, with several close matches that came down to the wire. Unfortunately the Oles fell short with a 4-3 score. The team was led by Karl Wilbur, Ted Nagel, and Tom Nagel who all won their matches.
The men's tennis team is now 8-7 overall and 4-2 in the MIAC conference. Their next match is Friday, April 12th at 3:30/4pm at the Carlson Courts on the St. Olaf campus. This will be the Oles first outdoor match on campus this year.
