St. Olaf men's tennis team falls to St. Cloud State

On Friday, April 12th, the St. Olaf men's team played their first outdoor home tennis match versus Division II St. Cloud State University. The match was a seven point format. This meant that who ever won two of three of the doubles matches got one point and each of the singles matches counted as one point also.

The Oles started out strong by winning each of the three doubles matches and thus capturing the doubles point. Winners were Tom and Ted Nagel at number one doubles, Tim Smith and Karl Wilbur at number two doubles, and Brandon Hall and Matt Sobieski at number three doubles.

The singles matches were for the most part very close, but the Oles came up short in each one. Consequently, the match ended up as a 6-1 victory for the Huskies of St. Cloud State. The Oles played hard, so the end score was not indicative of the competiveness of the match.

The Oles play two away matches this week. On Wednesday, the Oles travel to St. Paul to play Hamline University at 4:00. Action continues at 9:00 a.m. against Macalester in St. Paul on Saturday, April 20. The Oles are currently 8-8 and 4-2 in conference play.
