Ole women beat Saint Mary's in first home outdoor match

The Oles came away with their second win of the season against Saint Mary?s college on Saturday, April 13. The match was the first outdoor match of the season played at St. Olaf?s Carlson tennis courts in front of a good crowd. The final score of the match was 6-3.

In doubles play, the Oles went 2-1 with wins from the first doubles team of Janelle Sagness (Jr., Mankato, Minn.) and Beth Erie (FY, Rochester, Minn.), who won 8-1. The second doubles team of Yvonne Yang (Jr., Appleton, Wis.) and Kristin Buchta (FY., Neenah, Wis) won in a tiebreaker with a score of 9-8 and 7-4 in the tiebreaker. The number three doubles team Carrie and Michelle Wiersma (FY., La Crosse, Wis.) lost 5-8.

In singles action, the Oles won 4 out of the 6 matches. At number one singles Sagness picked up the Oles first win with a score of 6-4, 7-5. Erie also won at number two singles 6-4, 6-0. At number three singles Bethany Kochsiek (Sr., La Crosse, Wis) won a close three set match 6-2, 4-6 and 10-8 in the third set super tiebreaker. The final win for the Oles was Jamie Brau (So., Arlington, Minn) 6-1, 6-0. Number five Lindsay C. Johnson (FY., Verona Wis.) and six singles Abigail Betts (Sr., Bethesda, Md.), lost to St, Mary?s with scores of 5-7, 2-6 and 3-6, 3-6 respectively. The Oles next meet is against Hamline University in St. Paul at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 16.
