Track and Field fares well at Wartburg Select Meet
April 17, 2002
Traveling across the border to Waverly Iowa, the St. Olaf women?s team competed in ideal conditions at the Wartburg Select Meet on April 13th. Throughout the day, a new school record was set along with two athletes provisionally qualifying for nationals. The field events were lead by Leah Dvorak (Jr., Elma, Iowa) and Jennifer Levenhagen (So., Appleton, Wisc.). Dvorak placed 4th in high jump and javelin, while Levenhagen finished 2cd in javelin and 3rd in discus.
The shuttle hurdle relay team of Becky Peterson (So., Plymouth, Minn.), Kitty Torrison (FY, Monona, Wisc.), Angie Lau (FY, Bloomington, Minn.), and Katie Lindley (Sr., Northfield, Minn.) set a new school record and the pace for the running events. Peterson also won the 100-meter hurdles and provisioned for the national meet, while also finishing 7th in the 200-meter dash and anchoring the 8th place 4x100-meter relay team. In her first steeplechase, April Graves (FY, Shorewood, Minn.) finished in a strong 3rd place. Megan Daymont (Jr., Northfield, Minn.) came in a close 2cd in the 1,500-meter race, but also provisioned for the national meet. Daymont also won the 800-meter race with teammate Marit Grorud (So., Fremont, Nebr.) finishing in 8th place. Daymont, Grorud, Abby Love (So., Appleton, Wisc.) and Peterson combined forces and finished 4th in the 4x400 meter relay.
Many other Oles also set personal records in both field and running events throughout the day, while gearing up for their next competition at home.
