The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) has a strong showing in the 2001-02 Division III Sears Director's Cup Final Winter Standings. Four MIAC institutions placed in the top 50 and eleven out of thirteen conference schools received points in the standings. St. Olaf College is leading the MIAC tied for 17th place with 298 points. Gustavus Adolphus College and the University of St. Thomas are close behind in 29th and 30th place (269, 266.5 points) respectively. The Sears Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. It is administered by NACDA and sponsored by Sears, Roebuck and Co. The final winter standings include the sports of women's and men's basketball, ice hockey, swimming and indoor track and field; men's wrestling; and fencing, rifle and skiing. Complete standings and the scoring structure can be found on NACDA's web site at www.nacda.com. Points are awarded on each of the institution's finish in up to 20 sports - 10 for men and 10 for women. Each national champion receives 100 points.
