April 20, 2002
Sarah Beaver, a junior from Poway, Calif., and Hilary Lehmann, a sophomore from Mission Hill, S.D., have won first- and third-place prizes, respectively, for Greek translation in the Maurine Dallas Watkins Contests, which is sponsored by Eta Sigma Phi, the national classics honor society for college students. Beaver, who is majoring in classics, ancient studies and Spanish, won first place for Biblical Greek translation. Lehmann, who is majoring in classics and English, won third place for classical Greek translation. St. Olaf has had at least one winner in the prestigious contest every year since 1980.
