Women's tennis loses to crosstown rival Carleton

The St. Olaf Women's tennis team competed against crosstown rival Carleton College yesterday April 23 at Bell Field. The Oles lost 7-2 earning one point from 3rd doubles team of Linsay Gorham (Sr. Wenatchee, Wash) and Carrie Wiersma (FY, La Crosse, Wis.) and 5th singles Jennifer Ison (Jr. Urbana, Ill.).

The no. 1 doubles team of Janelle Sangress (Jr. Mankato, Minn.) and Beth Erie (FY, Rochester, Minn.) put up a tough fight in a 9-7 defeat. And senior, first year combo of Bethany Kochsiek (La Crosse, Wis.) and Kristen Buchta (Neenah, Minn.) were defeated 8-6.

In singles action Sagress and Erie both took a loss, 6-4,5-7,7-6, and 6-3,6-1, respectively. Third single Kochsiek also lost 6-3,6-1, as well as Sophomore Jamie Brau (Arlington, Minn.) at no. 4, 6-4,3-6,7-6. And at no. 6 Lindsay Johnson (FY, Verona, Wis.) came up short in a 7-5,6-2 loss.

This match brings the women to a 3-9 record overall, and 3-7 in the MIAC. The Oles compete next in the Luther Invite in Decorah, Iowa April 26-27, the time is yet to be determined.
