Oles drop two to Cobbers
April 25, 2002
There were 9 home-runs hit on Mabel Shirley field yesterday, when the St. Olaf fastpitch team took on Concordia College. Unfortunately, the Oles lost both games, 15-4 and 10-9.
Concordia had solid bats all day, nailing the ball over the fence seven times. Four of the seven came in the first game, when the Cobbers took advantage of the outward wind and beat the Oles by a score of 15-4 in five innings.
The Oles jumped on top early in the second game on an RBI single by Kelly Frederick (Jr. Woodland, Minn.) scoring Lindsay Bonine (So. St. Paul, Minn.). The Oles scored two more when Molly Robinson (Jr. Northfield, Minn.) sent one out of the park with Andrea Smith (FY Burnsville, Minn) on first base, putting them ahead 3-0. The Cobber came back with a three run 3rd inning, including Stacie Johnson?s third home-run of the day. Again, the Oles came back with RBI?s by Carrie Cooley (Sr. Villard, Minn) and Alex McKinley (So. Chippewa Falls, Wisc.). The Cobbers came back in the 5th and 6th, scoring 6 runs in two innings, with two three-run home-runs by Kathy Braun, hitting her second and third home-runs of the day. The Oles were now down 10-5 going into the bottom of the seventh inning. Kelly Frederick and Kirsten Haaland (Jr. Billlings, Mont.) started out the inning getting on base with two walks. Cooley then singled to center field, scoring Frederick and having runners on first and second. Alex McKinley came to bat and sent one yard, putting the Oles within one run with no outs. Unfortunately, The Oles couldn?t keep the rally going and dropped the exciting game 10-9 to the Cobbers. The Oles are now 4-10 in the MIAC and 9-17 overall.
The Oles next match-up is Friday, April 26 when the Oles take on Augsburg College on Mabel Shirley Field at 4:00.
