Men's tennis improves record to 2-1

NORTHFIELD, MINN.- The St. Olaf men's tennis team traveled to Rochester to take on Luther College and left victorious, winning the match 4-3.

The St. Olaf doubles pairs were on fire and swept Luther 3-0 getting the Oles off to an excellent start. The number one pair, Ted and Tom Nagel(So. Oglesby, Ill.) competed in the closest match and came out on top, 8-6. Karl Wilbur (Sr. Edina, Minn.) and Tim Smith (Sr. Eden Prarie, Minn.) continued the success winning their match 8-2. Matt Sobieski (Jr. Mahtomedi, Minn.) and Brandon Hall (Sr. Dubuque, Iowa) made it a clean sweep in an 8-4 victory. Number one single, Wilbur, took the first match for the Oles in a 6-1, 6-0 fashion. Ted Nagel came out on top in a close one 6-4, 6-4 in the number four spot. Tom Nagel took home the final victory for the Oles 6-0 and 6-2.

Number two singles Peder Thoen (Jr. Kolsas, Norway) and number three singles Brandon Hall lost their matches in third set tie-breakers 5-7. 6-4, (10-3) and 5-7, 6-2, (10-8) respectively. Dan Cohen (So., St. Paul, Minn.) also lost 6-0 and 6-1.

This win puts the Oles? record to 2-1. Their next match is Friday, March 9, when they take on Concordia in Fargo, N.D.
