Poet, multicultural singer, Minnesota native Diane Jarvi to read and perform at St. Olaf
MARCH 26, 2002 — Poet, performer and songwriter Diane Jarvi sings in nine languages in a distinct voice has been compared to that of Edith Piaf and Joan Baez. A Minnesota native, she is intrigued by the works of many cultures and countries, including the haunting melodies of her grandparents' native Finland.

'Performance Today' to broadcast St. Olaf Choir performance on National Public Radio
MARCH 22, 2002 — During its 10-state tour of the eastern United States this past winter, the 75-voice St. Olaf Choir paid a visit to National Public Radio in Washington, D.C. You may hear the choir's hourlong performance at 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 27, on 89.3 WCAL, the independent public radio service of St. Olaf College.

St. Olaf College Alpine men finish 2nd and women 9th at Nationals
MARCH 21, 2002 — Alpine Ski teams competed at the National Championships on March 13-16 in Waterville Valley, NH. The mountain's crew had to work very hard, as did the skiiers, to deal with the little snow the course had seen this year. Fielding the best competition in the nation, both the men's and women's teams both put together some great performances.

MARCH 19, 2002 — St. Olaf women's golf coach Le Ann Finger, a nine-time champion at Northfield Golf Club and an Ole alum, has been named sports information director at the college. Her predecessor, Judy Stromayer, has been named director of recreation.

DeVries receives Fulbright grant to study medical sociology in the Netherlands
MARCH 19, 2002 — Professor of Sociology Raymond DeVries is studying and consulting in the Netherlands about medical ethics for six weeks, thanks to a senior specialists grant from the Fulbright Scholar Program.

MARCH 19, 2002 — The Oles men's tennis team lost their second conference match on March 16 to a tough University of St. Thomas squad.

Many Americans would say "yes" in the wake of Sept. 11, but some current philosophical thinkers challenge that claim. St. Olaf religion and philosophy Professor Edmund Santurri will explain why.

New church relations director aims to make St. Olaf a haven for social dialogue, ideas
MARCH 15, 2002 — Janet Kringen Thompson, a St. Olaf College alumnus and recently its director of alumni and parent relations, has been named church relations director at the college. "Outreach" and "diversity" are among the watchwords of her agenda.

Ole Indoor Track and Field women compete at Nationals
MARCH 14, 2002 — Two women from the track and field team recently participated at the Division III National Indoor Track and Field Championships in Ada, Ohio. Megan Daymont (Jr., Northfield, Minn.) finished second in the 800 M, and Becky Peterson (So., Plymouth, Minn.) competed in the 55-meter hurdles, finishing in 12th place.

Ole baseball splits with UMD
MARCH 12, 2002 — Last Monday the St. Olaf Baseball team traveled back to the Metrodome for a doubleheader against the University of Minnesota-Duluth (UMD) Bulldogs. The Oles came away with a split after playing in two somewhat controversial contests.

MARCH 11, 2002 — The St. Olaf women's tennis team lost to conference rivals Concordia College on Saturday, March 9.

Men win close match with Concordia
MARCH 11, 2002 — The St. Olaf men's tennis team won a close match with Concordia College Saturday, March 9th. The final score was 5-4 with many of the matches being closely contested.

Church leadership conference to address strategic planning, staff development
MARCH 8, 2002 — Ministers, lay leaders, youth workers, administrators and other church leaders of all denominations are invited to a "Church Leadership Skills" conference at St. Olaf on Friday, April 5.

Baseball sweeps U of Dubuque
MARCH 6, 2002 — The St. Olaf Baseball team opened their 2002 season on Wednesday, February 27, with a double-header sweep over the University of Dubuque at the Metrodome. After winning the first game 2-1 in the 7th inning, the Oles took the second game 4-0.

Women's Indoor Track and Field finishes strong at MIAC Championships
MARCH 6, 2002 — The women's indoor track and field team capped off the 2002 season with great performances at the MIAC Championships. The Championships were held at Carleton College and the Oles were able to stay atop of the cross-town rivals earning them a third place finish by one and a half points.

Women fall in close match versus St. Catherine
MARCH 5, 2002 — The St. Olaf Women's Tennis team matched up against St. Catherine's College on Friday, March 1, at the Owatonna Indoor Club. St. Olaf came up on the short end in a grueling match with a 4-5 loss.

St. Olaf, Westminster choirs to present joint concert at Bethel College in Arden Hills
MARCH 5, 2002 — Two giants of choral music -- the world-renowned St. Olaf Choir and the Westminster Choir of Rider University -- will collaborate on a concert for only the second time in their decades-long history. The event takes place March 17 in the Twin Cities.

Men's tennis improves record to 2-1
MARCH 5, 2002 — The St. Olaf men's tennis team traveled to Rochester to take on Luther College and left victorious, winning the match 4-3.
