Women's Indoor Track and Field finishes strong at MIAC Championships

The women's indoor track and field team capped off the 2002 season with great performances at the MIAC Championships. The Championships were held at Carleton College and the Oles were able to stay atop of the cross-town rivals earning them a third place finish by one and a half points.

The Oles were led by Megan Daymont ('03, Northfield, Minn.) who captured first place in the 1500 meter run for the third consecutive indoor season. In the 600 meter run she set a new school record and a new meet record with a time of 1:35.15. She also contributed a first place mark in the 1000 meters with a time of 2:54.92. In the 800 M at UW-River Falls Coca Cola Classic, Daymont finished with a time of 2:12.75, which gave her an NCAA automatic qualifying time and ranks her third in the nation. Daymont holds the MIAC records for 600, 800, 1000 and 1500 meter races, and ran the fastest leg on the 4 X 400 M relay team.

Acompanying Daymont was teammate Becky Peterson (So., Plymouth, Minn.) who came in in second place in the Pentathlon with 3119 points, ranking second on the all time Ole list. Peterson broke two school records with a time of 8.51 in the 55 Meter Hurdles and the 200 meter dash with a time of 26.33, capturing first place in both races. She took third place in the 400 meter dash with a time of 61.24.

Senior Brigid Franey (Lexington, Ky) moved to second on the all time Ole list when she took thrid place in the 5000 meter run with time of 18:22.33. Franey also took fifth place in the 3000 meter run with a time of 10:42.02.

Megan Daymont is scheduled to compete in the Nationals at Ohio Northern in Ada, Ohio on March 8-9 in the 800 meter race.
