Ole women lose to a talented St. Thomas squad

The St Olaf Women?s Tennis Team lost 0-9 to a strong University of St. Thomas squad on Friday March 15, 2002 at the Owatonna Indoor Tennis Center. While all players competed hard, the Oles came up short.
The hardest fought match was the number two doubles where Yvonne Yang (Jr. Appleton, Wis.) and Kristen Buchta (FY. Neenah, Wis.) lost in a tiebreaker (8-9). The number one doubles was another competitive match with St Olaf?s Janelle Sagness (Jr. Mankato, Minn.) and Beth Erie (FY. Rochester, Minn.) losing 6-8. The number three doubles team of Bethany Kochsiek (Sr. LaCrosse, Wis.) and Lindsay Gorham (Sr. Wenatchee, Wash.) lost 0-8.
In singles matches the Oles are struggling but gain experience with every match. Number three singles, Bethany Kochsiek (Sr. LaCrosse, Wis.) lost a close match (6-7, 2-6). At number one singles, Janelle Sagness (Jr. Mankato, Minn.) lost (3-6, 0-6), as well as number two singles, Beth Erie (FY. Rochester, Minn.), lost (0-6, 2-6). Number four singles was Kristen Buchta (FY. Neenah, Wis.) who lost (3-6, 1-6) and at number five singles Yvonne Yang (Jr. Appleton, Wis.) lost (2-6, 3-6). Finally, at number six singles Jennifer Ison (Jr. Urbana, Ill.) lost (1-6, 0-6).
The St Olaf women?s squad looks to improve on the current 0-5 record and hopes to gain their first win in the upcoming match. Their next match will be at 6:00 PM, Friday, April 5 against the College of St. Benedict, at the Owatonna Indoor Tennis Center.
