Oles snap losing streak with win over Augsburg
February 12, 2002
Justin Bonestroo (Jr., Stillwater, Minn.) matched a career-high with 21 points in the Oles 78-70 win over Augsburg Monday night, February 11. Bonestroo, who also had 11 rebounds, set his career best in Saturday's loss to St. Thomas on February 9.
The win snapped a nine-game skid for the Oles and the fourth straight over Augsburg. In fact, St. Olaf's January 19 win at Si Melby Hall in Minneapolis over the Auggies was their last win. Kevin Jaunich (Jr., Delano, Minn.) and Mike Ludwig (Jr., Blaine, Minn.) added 14 points each in the win. Matt Schlenker (So., Rochester, Minn./Mayo) had a game-high 13 rebounds, eight points and six assists.
Trevor Overskei (Jr., Rosville, Minn.) led the Auggies with 13 points. Overskei was four-of-seven from the arc in the second half. Josh Natzel added 11 points and 13 rebounds in a losing effort.
The Ole's final contest is on Saturday, February 16, when they host the Knights of Carleton at 3:00 p.m. The Knights won the first game of the series, and subsequently have retained possession of the Goat Trophy. The teams have split the past three seasons. The game is free of admission and can be heard on the Mighty KDHL, 920 AM.
