On Wednesday, February 6, the Oles traveled to Fridley to take on the Bethel Royals. The game was intense for both teams were hungry for a win. The Royals played at Northfield on Saturday, February 9. The Oles split with Royals winning 2-1 and losing 2-1.

The first period remained scoreless, with the shots about even (Oles had nine shots and the Royals had 10). Scoring in the second period brought more excitement to the game. Eight minutes into the second period, the Royals scored. However, the Oles answered back with a goal a few minutes later. Erin Baxter (FY., Rosemount, Minn.) scored for the Oles with the assist from Kate Barnett (FY., Burnsville, Minn.). For the rest of the second period and the majority of the third, both teams played extremely well. The puck moved back and forth into each teams zone and the shots remained even. At 18:56 in the third period, a Bethel penalty put the Oles on a power play for the remaining minute of the game. With 5 seconds left in the game, Sarah Ray (So., St. Paul, Minn.) took a shot from the point. Ray scored the game-winning goal with the assists from Brit Schultheis (FY., Shoreview, Minn.) and Baxter. The excitement from the bench was immense as the Oles beat Bethel 2-1. The Oles faced Bethel again on Saturday night at the Northfield Ice Arena.

On Saturday, February 9, the Oles matched up against the Bethel once again. The Oles were anxious for another win while the Royals were ready for revenge for Wednesday night?s loss. The first period was scoreless until 16:41 into the first period when the Royals scored. Early in the second period, the Royals scored again. The score remained 0-2 throughout most of the second period. At 13:19, the Oles had a power play opportunity and put themselves on the scoreboard. Kate Barnett (FY., Burnsville, Minn.) scored for the Oles with the assist from Sarah Ray (So., St. Paul, Minn.). The Oles intensified their game and put forth a great effort to tie the score before the clock ran out. Unfortunately the third period was scoreless. With a final score of 2-1, the Oles and the Royals split their two game series. Ole goaltender, Andrea Smith (FY., Burnsville, Minn.) had 34 saves. Ole defender Lorna Wilson (FY., Wasilla, Alaska) also had a very good game.

The Oles will next face St. Thomas. They will play at the Coliseum on Friday night at 7:30 PM and then at home on Saturday at 7:30 PM. Saturday?s game will be the Oles last game of the season and therefore the team will recognize the graduating seniors.
