Competing at the University of Minnesota?s Parent?s Day Open, the St. Olaf women fought tough and proved that they can compete with any level of athlete. Though there were many highlights of the day, the concluding 4x400 relay captured the excitement felt throughout the meet. Trailing the U of Minnesota?s team going into the final leg, the Oles overtook the Gophers for the first place finish.

The field events verified that a week of practice allows for improvement in all field events. Sarah Beggs (Sr., Klamath Falls, Ore.) and Erin Davidson (So., St. Paul, Minn.) finished 8th and 9th in long jump to set the pace for the jumps. Beggs also finished 7th in triple jump. Leah Dvorak (Jr., Elma, Iowa) finished 6th in high jump. The throwers found some personal records broken while competing against tough throwing competition.

While the field events were competing, the racing on the track began with Sophomore Marit Grorud (Fremont, Neb.) finishing 6th in the 800-meter. Teammate Abby Love (So., Appleton, Wis.) finished 9th, respectively. In the mile run, Megan Daymont (Jr., Northfield, Minn.) placed 2nd in a lifetime best time of 4:59.46. That time is an automatic qualifying time for the NCAA National meet to be held in March. Brigid Franey (Sr., Lexington, Ky.) ran a great mile - 3 K double, finishing 9th in the 3K. Also showing her strength was Maren Flynn (Sr. , Arcadia, Wis.) who finished 4th in the 5,000-meter run with a personal best performance. In the sprints, many personal records were broken. Becky Peterson finished 5th in the 60-meter hurdles, setting a new school record of 9.42.

Taking the excitement from this past weekend, the Oles will travel to University of Wisconsin-River Falls on Friday, February 22, to compete in the last meet tune-up before the MIAC conference meet.
