Men's Nordic wins MIAC Championship, Women take 2nd
February 19, 2002
In the second day of competition, it was Sonja Bostrom from St. Olaf who took the womens 5 km gold with a time of 16:47, nearly a minute over Emma Stefansson of Gustavus 17:40 in silver and her teamate Hillary McCulloh 17:44 in bronze. Stefanson lead the team from Gustavus to its first ever conference victory over defending champs from St Olaf in both days of racing. The Gustavus victory came as little surprise considering the team scored 5 racers in the top ten. Carleton placed third in the team competition lead by junior Liz Parke who was forth.
In the mens classical race St Olaf senior Kevin Hoechtl won by over a minute and a half over teamate and freestyle champion Jay Eidem. Carleton first year Chris Lundberg tied St Olaf sophomore John Giese in third only 8 seconds from Eidem. The team competition was dominated for the second day by St. Olaf men who again took 3 places in the top four.
