Oles gain momentum for upcoming conference meet

Gaining momentum to enter this week?s conference track meet, the St. Olaf Women?s Track and Field team had a successful meet at the University of Wisconsin River Falls. The team finished 4th overall, and the 2nd through 4th places were all within 5 points of one another.

The field events started the evening out with many of the athletes competing to the best of their abilities. The jumps were lead by Leah Dvorak (Jr., Elma, Iowa) who finished 2nd in high jump. Teammates Sonja Moe (FY, Northfield, Minn.) and Jennifer Levenhagen (So, Appleton, Wisc.) who finished 5th and 6th in triple jump. Levenhagen also finished 7th in the high jump. Becky Peterson (So, TOWN) finished 7th in the long jump. The throws were lead by Emily Uzzell (Jr., Norfolk, Nebr.) who finished 5th in shot put and 7th in 20-lb. weight throw.

While the field events were exploding with success, the track was also dominated by peak performances. Starting the evening, Peterson provisionally qualified for nationals in the 55-meter hurdles and won the event. Teammates Angie Lau (FY, TOWN), Katie Lindley (Sr., Northfield, Minn.), and Levenhagen finished 4th, 5th, and 6th, respectively. Lau and Lindley went 1st and 2nd in the 200-meter hurdles, as well. Peterson also finished first in the 200-meter dash, setting the meet record in the process. Marit Grorud (So., Fremont, Nebr.) and Pam Crall (Jr., TOWN) finished 2nd and 7th in the 400 meter run, while Abby Love (So., Appleton, Wisc.), Taryn Weakly (Jr., Milwaukee, Wisc.), Jessica Rother (Jr.Town), and Jenny Milverstedt (FY, TOWN) finished the 600-meter run in 3rd, 4th, 7th, and 8th places. Megan Daymont (Jr., Northfield, Minn.) automatically qualified for nationals with a time that placed her, currently, number one in Division III in the 800-meter , while also setting a new meet record. Teammate Megan Call (Sr., Logan, Utah) finished 3rd. In the 1,000-meter run, Kjersten Johnson (So., TOWN) and Emily Hagen (So., TOWN) finished 4th and 5th, while Traci Bartz (Jr., Bemidji, Minn.) finished 7th in the 1,500-meter run. Brigid Franey finished first in the 3,000-meter run. The 4x400 meter relay also set a new meet record and finished first.

Overall, the meet gave the Oles the confidence booster to enter the MIAC conference meet this Friday and Saturday (March 1st and 2nd) at Carleton.
