Women's hockey finishes season with St. Thomas series

On Friday, February 22, the Oles took on the St. Thomas Tommies at the Coliseum. The Oles put forth a tremendous effort against the Tommies but lost 3-1.

In the first period, both teams put forth a great effort leaving the scoreboard blank. Scoring began in the second period. At 3:28, St. Thomas scored the first goal. However, the Oles answered back and scored at 7:03 in the second. Kate Barnett (Fr, Burnsville, Minn.) scored on the power play with the assists from Sarah Ray (So, St. Paul, Minn.) and Jenny Groth (Fr, Waupaca,Wis.). At 11:21, the Tommies scored again.

Going into the third period, the Oles were down by one and they tried to tie the game and hold the Tommies from putting another puck in the net. Unfortunately, St. Olaf was unable to score and the St. Thomas scored again with three and a half minutes left in the game. With a final score of 3-1, the Oles had 11 shots on goal. Ole goaltender, Andrea Smith (Fr, Burnsville, Minn.) had 36 saves.

The Oles will face the Tommies again on Saturday, February 23, for their last game of the season. The game will be at 7:30 pm at the Northfield Ice Arena. There will also be a special recognition for the graduating seniors.

On Saturday, February 23, the Oles had their last game of the season against the St. Thomas Tommies and lost 6-2.

Unfortunately, the Tommies got off to an early lead scoring four unanswered goals in the first period. The Oles picked up their game in the second period and put themselves on the scoreboard. At 1:19 in the second period, Brit Schultheis (FY, Shoreview, Minn.) scored with the assist from Sarah Ray (So, St. Paul, Minn.). However, St. Thomas scored two more goals before the second period was over making the score 6-1.

Going into the third period down by five, the Oles were far from giving up. In the third period, the Oles held the Tommies from scoring any more goals. St. Olaf scored again at 6:45. Ray scored unassisted. With a final score of 2-6, the Oles had 13 shots on goal. Ole goaltenders, Kerry Rollwagen (FY, Mendota Heights, Minn.) and Andrea Smith (FY, Burnsville, Minn.) had a total of 41 saves. The Oles ended their season with a positive third period.
