Oles blown out by Royals

Andy Gilbert (Jr., Plymouth, Minn./Armstrong H.S.) had 23 points and seven rebounds, leading Bethel to a 90-57 thumping of St. Olaf College Wednesday night, January 3. Gilbert had 12 points in the first six minutes propelling the Royals to a 17-3 lead.
Bethel beat the Oles in virtually every aspect of the game. The Royals out- rebounded St. Olaf 44-39, which included 15 offensive boards. Bethel shot 44 percent from the field, and ten-of-23 from three-point range, while St. Olaf was a dismal 35 percent from the field and just one-for-14 from the arc.
Bethel led by as many as 27 in the first half (43-16) and by as many as 36 in the second. Eric Robertson (Sr., Anoka, Minn.) added 15 while Joe Madson (Jr., Redwood Falls, Minn./Redwood Valley H.S.) and John Jacobs (So.,Wells, Minn./United So. Central H.S.) each contributed 14 points in the win.
Kevin Jaunich (Jr., Delano, Minn.) and Matt Hofkens (Sr., Neenah, Wis.) had 12 points for St. Olaf.
The Oles look to rebound Saturday, January 5, when they host the Scots of Macalester College. The Scots are 4-0 in MIAC play after they defeated Augsburg handily, 80- 46 Wednesday night, January 3. Last weekend, December28-29, Macalester defeated Division I foe Yale in the Poinsettia Classic for third place in the tournament. Tip is set for 3:00 p.m. at Skoglund Athletic Center. The game is free of admission and can be heard on 920 AM, KDHL.
