Oles drop third straight
January 8, 2002
NORTHFIELD, MINN.- For the third time this season, the St. Olaf men's basketball team delivered an entertaining game in front of a healthy crowd at Skoglund Athletic Center. Unfortunately, the Oles followed suit to their last two home games; they lost a nail-biter. It was the Johnnies of St. John's University that proved to be too much for St. Olaf Monday night, January 8. Mike Nester (Sr., Redwood Valley, Minn.) led the Johnny charge with 22 points in their 63-57 win over St. Olaf. Luke Witt (Sr., Red Wing, Minn.) added 12 points and five assists in the win. Mike Ludwig (Jr., Blaine, Minn.) had 20 points and Matt Schlenker (So. Rochester, Minn./Mayo) had 13 rebounds for the Oles. St. John's shot an impressive 54 percent from the field and 56 percent from three to earn the victory. St. Olaf was just 35 percent from the field and three-of-12 from the arc. The Oles host the University of St. Thomas on Wednesday night, January 7, at 7:30 p.m. at Skoglund Athletic Center. The Tommies are coming off of an 75-72 overtime win over previously unbeaten, fifth-ranked Gustavus on Saturday. St. Thomas is 5-1 in MIAC play and 9-2 overall. With the loss to St. John's, the Oles are now 6-6 overall and 2-5 in MIAC play.
