NORTHFIELD, Minn. ? On Wednesday, January 9, the Ole women had their first game since winter break. They hosted the UW-Steven?s Point Pointers at Fairbault Ice Arena and lost the game 5-0.

A few roster changes took place as students leave for and return from abroad programs. Anne Whipple (Jr, Neenah, Wis.) headed off to Spain for a semester while the Oles welcomed back Ingrid Solversen (Sr, Viroqua, Wis.) and Jennie Pinkerton (So, Minot, N.D).

The Oles had an outstanding effort against the nationally ranked Pointers. Playing a defensive and physical game, the Oles held the Pointers to only one goal which was scored late in the first period. The Pointers put two more past St. Olaf in the second period and two in the third period. As the game progressed, the physical aspect of the game intensified, resulting in three St. Olaf penalties and seven Steven?s Point penalties. Ole goaltender Andrea Smith (FY, Burnsville, Minn.) had an excellent game stopping 42 of 47 shots. The Oles had 14 shots on the Pointer net.

Overall, the Oles played a tough, physical game and faired well against a good team. The next contest will be at against St. Mary?s University in Winona on Friday, January 11, at 7:00 PM. They will host SMU at the Northfield Ice Arena on Saturday, January 12, at 7:00 PM.
