NORTHFIELD, MINN. ? The St. Olaf basketball team fell to St. Thomas on Wednesday, January 9 on the road by a score of 79-44. St. Thomas currently leads the race for the conference title and is undefeated in MIAC play.

The Oles only trailed by six points with four and a half minutes remaining in the first half. Tommie pressure began to do its damage, forcing the Oles to commit 24 turnovers in the first half. The Tommies took advantage, capitalizing off Ole turnovers, and put together a 20 to four run to lead 40-18 at the end of the first half. Coach Buresh commented, "We played well for the first 15 minutes and played solid defense throughout the game. We just turned the ball over too much, and gave them too many easy baskets."

The Oles were able to cut down on turnovers in the second half despite continued full-court pressure by the Tommies, but continued to struggle offensively. "Their defense really forces you out of your offensive rhythm," explained Coach Buresh. Cara Battles (Sr, McGregor, Minn.) led the Oles in scoring with seven points. Liz Woodrow (Sr, Aitkin, Minn.) added five points, and Kristy Larson (FY, St. Ansgar, Iowa) had five points and six rebounds. Carrie Cooley (Sr, Villard, Minn.) had five rebounds, four assists, and two steals. St. Thomas' Missy Pederson led all scoring with 21 points.

The Oles next take on MIAC opponent Augsburg College at home on Saturday, January 12. Game time is 3:00 PM.
