Womens hockey swept by St. Marys

This past weekend the Ole women competed against the Cardinals from St. Mary's University (SMU). St. Olaf was shut out both games 6-0 and 2-0.

On Friday, January 11, the Oles traveled to Winona. The first period was solid for the Oles as they held St. Mary?s scoreless. The Oles kept the intensity throughout the majority of the second period. Unfortunately, St. Mary's scored a shorthanded goal at 12:44 and then another at 14:54. The Cardinal?s scoring streak continued into the third period with a power play goal 20 seconds into the period and a full strength goal at 1:46. SMU scored two more goals bringing the final score to 0-6. Ole Goaltender, Kerry Rollwagen (FY., Mendota Heights, Minn.) stopped 42 of the Cardinals 48 shots.

On Saturday, January 12, the Oles put forth a tremendous effort against the Cardinals. Two goals early in the first period put the Cardinals ahead. However, the Oles had an outstanding defensive game and did not let any more pucks in the net. It was a rough game with a total of 12 penalties, six for each team. With a final score of 0-2, the Oles had 24 shots on goal. Ole goaltender, Andrea Smith (FY., Burnsville, Minn.) had 38 saves. Other Oles who had outstanding games included Kayla Wente (FY, Waterloo, Iowa) and Megan Duffey (Sr., Richfield, Minn.).

The Oles face Augsburg on Thursday, January 17, for a 7:00 p.m. game.They host the Auggies at the Northfield Ice Arena on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
