Ludwig reaches 1000 points in Oles loss to Gusties

Chad Henke (Sr., Gaylord, Minn./Sibley East) had 21 of his game-high 23 points in the first half, leading Gustavus over St. Olaf 84-58.

Three other Gusties were in double figures in the win. David Newell (Jr., Fergus Falls, Minn.) and Doug Espenson (FY., Mankato, Minn./East) each had 11 and Kirk Walberg (Sr., Annandale, Minn.) with ten. Henke also collected 13 rebounds.

Mike Ludwig (Jr., Blaine, Minn.) had 18 and Kevin Jaunich (Jr., Delano, Minn.) 11 points for St. Olaf. Ludwig, who was eight-of-20 from the floor, scored his 1,000th point in the second half, becoming the 14th in school history to accomplish the feat. Justin Bonestroo (Jr., Stillwater, Minn.) added six points, a career-high 12 rebounds and four assists in just 16 minutes of action for the Oles.

With the loss, St. Olaf falls to 7-9 overall and 3-8 in MIAC play. Gustavus improved to 15-2 overall and 9-2 in conference play. With the win, the sixth- ranked Gusties moved back into first place.

The Oles will next be in action on Wednesday, January. 23, when they host St. Mary's University at 7:30 PM.
