Mens track competes in MSU Open

The St. Olaf men's indoor team competed at the MSU-Mankato Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The Oles turned in respectable individual and relay team performances throughout the course of the meet. This meet was not scored.

Peder Arneson (So, Montevideo, Minn) and Cory Dingels (Sr, Gibbon, Minn) turned in individual victories to lead the Oles. Arneson won the 5k in a time of 15:28.61 and Dingels out jumped his opponents in the high jump with a 1.97m effort. Dingels also claimed second in the long jump, 6.99m, fourth in the 60m dash, 7.18s, and ran a leg in the winning 4x400m relay.

Three Ole racers turned in third place performances. Matt Wieland (Sr, Stillwater, Minn) tore through the 500m in 1:07.93. Robert Hillard (Jr, Columbia, Missouri) took third in the 800m in 2:01.73, and Kelly Fulton (FY., Billings, Mont) paced through the 5k in 15:35.21.

Five individuals claimed fourth place finishes in their events. Andrew Cole (Sr., North Mankato, Minn) finished three seconds behind Hamline's Tom Kreger in the 1600m in 4:24.09. Jeff Boerner (Sr., Corcoran, Minn) clipped through the 1000m in 2:34.72. Ryan Noreen (Jr., Bloomington, Minn) finished close behind Wieland in the 500m in 1:08.01. Matt Johnson (So., Richfield, Minn) sped through the 200m in 23.34, and Eric Droher (Sr., Owatonna, Minn) jumped 4.19m in the pole vault.

The Oles dominated the relay section of the meet capturing two first place finishes. The 4x400 team of Wieland, Dingels, Mark Murakami (Sr., Chicago, Ill), and Noreen crossed the line in 3:24.32 for first place, three seconds ahead of second place Hamline. The 4x800 team of Hillard, Boerner, Arneson, Cole finished in 8:15.78 over second place Carleton. The 4x200 team of Gaute Johnson (Jr., Akerhus, Norway), David Olson (Sr., Faribault, Minn), Nate Campbell (FY., Madison, Wis), and Wieland took second in 1:36.13.

The Oles will lace up next weekend, January 25, at 6 PM in a meet against Carleton and Hamline in Northfield
