Nick Michaels (Jr., Dyer, Ind.) had four threes in the second half leading Saint Mary's over St. Olaf 87-84. Michaels was five-of-seven for the game from the arc and finished with a game-high 23 points.

Mike Ludwig (Jr., Blaine, Minn.) led the Oles with 21 points. St. Olaf had three other players in double-figures as well. Justin Bonestroo (Jr., Stillwater, Minn.) added a career-high 16 points, Kevin Jaunich (Jr., Delano, Minn.) 12 and Jeb Johnson (Sr., Wadena, Minn./Wadena-Deer Creek) 10 in a losing effort.

The Oles had two chances in the final minute to tie or take the lead. Saint Mary's, leading 85-84, missed the front end of a one-and-one free throw with 35 seconds left. On the ensuing possession, Jaunich missed a jumper from the wing and the Cardinal's Ryan Wilt corralled the rebound. Saint Mary's then made a pair of free-throws to push the lead to three with 4.5 seconds to play. Jaunich then pushed the ball the length of the floor and missed a three at the buzzer.

With the loss, the Oles drop to 7-10 overall and 3-9 in MIAC play. St. Olaf has now lost seven of their last eight and six in a row at home. The loss was the fifth conference defeat by six points or less.

On Saturday, January 26, the Oles will travel to Moorhead to play Concordia College at 7:30 p.m. This game will be the second of a double-header with the women.
