Oles win triangular meet at Carleton

Friday, January 25, the St. Olaf men's indoor track and field team crossed the Cannon River to Carleton's Goodhue Recreation Center and won the Carleton Triangular. The Oles claimed eight first place finishes and tallied 144 points to easily outscore Hamline and Carleton.
The Oles showed strength in all segments of the meet, claiming victories in both the running and field events. Cory Dingels (Sr., Gibbon, Minn) led the Oles with four first place finishes. Dingels opened the meet with a slight victory in the 55m dash over teammate Matt Johnson (So., Richfield, Minn) in 6.66 secs. He then out jumped his competition in both the high jump, 6-6 ft, and long jump, 22-5 1/4 ft, and ran a leg on the winning 4x400m relay team.
Ryan Noreen (Jr., Bloomington, Minn) won his two events with an easy victory in the 400m dash, 51.60 secs, and again as part of the winning 4x400m team. Andrew Cole (Sr.,North Mankato, Minn) won the 1500m run in 4:11.37 secs and was followed closely by teammates Peder Arneson (So., Montevideo, Minn) and Albert Pinsonneault (Sr., St. Paul, Minn), who both finished less than a second behind Cole to claim second and third place respectively.
The Oles dominated the field events by claiming first place in all but the weight throw. Along with Dingels' victories in the two jumps, Marcus Hanson (Jr.,Billings, Mont) destroyed his shot put competition with a 49-3 1/2 ft heave and Eric Droher (Sr., North Oaks, Minn) went 14-0 ft to win the pole vault.
The black and gold will compete again on Thursday, January 31, at the Gusty Classic in St. Peter, Minn. The meet will start at 5:30 PM.
