St. Olaf men beat St. Marys, now 4-2

The St. Olaf men's basketball team had five players in double-figures in route to a 78-72 win over St. Mary's University in MIAC action Wednesday night, December 5.

Mike Ludwig (Jr., Blaine, Minn.) led all scorers tallying 24 points with 16 coming in the second half, for the Oles. Jeb Johnson (Sr., Wadena, Minn./Wadena-Deer Creek H.S.) added 15, Matt Schlenker (So., Rochester, Minn./ Mayo H.S.) 11, while Justin Bonestroo (Jr., Stillwater, Minn.) and Matt Hofkens (Sr., Neenah, Wis.) had ten a piece in the win.

St. Mary's, Brett Johnson, had 23 points in a losing effort.

The Cardinals (0-4, 0-1) led by as many as ten in the first half before the Oles tied the game at 43 at halftime. In the second half, St. Olaf outscored St. Mary's 27-13 in the first 13 minutes of the final frame to gain control and earn their first conference win of the 2001-02 season.

The Oles (4-2, 1-1 MIAC) host Concordia-Moorhead College (3-2, 2-0) in a MIAC contest at Saturday afternoon, December 8. The Cobbers are coming off a 69-62 win over Augsburg.

The game will tip-off at approximately 3:00 p.m., following the women's game, which begins at 1:00 p.m. Both games are free of admission and can be heard on 920 AM, KDHL.
