New head football coach vows to emphasize excellence on field, in classroom alike
DECEMBER 28, 2001 — Chris Meidt, an award-winning football coach at Bethel in St. Paul, joins the Ole program with high hopes and big plans.

St. Olaf College names new head football coach
DECEMBER 28, 2001 — Chris Meidt is the new head football coach at St. Olaf College, officials announced today. Meidt, 32, comes to the Ole football program from a seven-year stint at Bethel College in St. Paul, where he served as offensive coordinator and assistant coach, helping lead the team to the MIAC championship in 2000 and 2001. Meidt produced the top-ranked offense in the MIAC for three of the past five years. He also coached five first-team All-Americans.

St.Olaf defeats Crown 79-72
DECEMBER 26, 2001 — The St. Olaf men's basketball team rallied from an eight-point halftime deficit to beat Crown College 79-72 in a non-conference game Friday night, December 21.

Ole women use hat tricks to beat Hamline 6-1
DECEMBER 13, 2001 — On Tuesday, December 11, the Ole women's hockey team had a non-conference match up against the Hamline Pipers. With two Ole hat tricks, St. Olaf beat Hamline 6-1 increasing their overall record to 4-8 and 1-5 in the MIAC.

Oles hold on to win over Hamline, 58-56
DECEMBER 13, 2001 — The St. Olaf men's basketball team fended a second half run from Hamline University, defeating the Pipers 58-56 at Hutton Arena in St. Paul on Wednesday, December 12.

Oles lose to Auggies in OT
DECEMBER 12, 2001 — The St. Olaf women?s basketball team fell to Augsburg College on Monday, December 10, in their last contest before the winter break. The game, played in Minneapolis at Si Melby Hall, extended beyond regulation play into overtime, with the Oles losing by a score of 58-64.

Wrestlers struggle at Wartburg
DECEMBER 11, 2001 — St. Olaf wrestlers traveled to Wartburg College on Saturday, December 8, to compete in the Dick Walker Invitational. Among the teams represented at this tournament were Augsburg College, Coe College, Ellsworth College, and Cornell College.

Ole women victorious over Concordia 74-72
DECEMBER 10, 2001 — The Olaf women's basketball (2-2 MIAC, 4-3 overall) team beat the Cobbers of Concordia-Moorhead College (2-2 MIAC, 2-4 overall) with a final score 74-72 on Saturday, December 8 at St. Olaf.

St. Olaf drops weekend series to St. Catherine
DECEMBER 10, 2001 — The Ole women's hockey team had a rough weekend against the College of St. Catherine dropping both games, 4-0 and 6-1. St. Olaf is now 3-8 overall and 1-5 in the MIAC.

Ole men lose heartbreaker to Concordia
DECEMBER 10, 2001 — Mike Syverson?s alley-oop basket with 2.6 seconds left gave the Cobbers of Concordia-Moorhead College a 68-66 comeback win over St. Olaf.

Oles cruise past St. Johns and St. Bens
DECEMBER 10, 2001 — In typical Ole style, the men?s and women?s swimming and diving teams took their performances up an additional notch to close out the first semester competition with a dominant win over St. John?s University and the College of St. Benedict. The final score was 162-73 for the women and 157-93 for the men.

A St. Olaf Tuba Christmas on Saturday, Dec. 8
DECEMBER 6, 2001 — The third annual St. Olaf Tuba Christmas will take place on Saturday, Dec. 8, at 3 p.m. in the Buntrock Commons "crossroads" located on the St. Olaf College campus. The concert is free and open to the public.

St. Olaf drops to 1-2 in conference play
DECEMBER 6, 2001 — The St. Olaf women?s basketball team lost to MIAC conference opponent, St Mary?s College (3-0 MIAC), 68 to 58 on Wednesday, December 5. The game, played at St. Olaf in the Skoglund Athletic Center was both teams? third MIAC game of the season.

St. Olaf men beat St. Marys, now 4-2
DECEMBER 6, 2001 — The St. Olaf men's basketball team had five players in double-figures in route to a 78-72 win over St. Mary's University in MIAC action Wednesday night, December 5.

Oles pick up one point in weekend series
DECEMBER 5, 2001 — Though it was only the fourth weekend of the season, the Oles faced a tough opponent in St. Mary?s University and came away with a 2-2 tie on Friday in Winona and dropped a close one 4-3 on Saturday in Northfield to stay in the hunt for a MIAC playoff berth.

St. Olaf women lose MIAC opener to Gusties
DECEMBER 4, 2001 — The St. Olaf women's basketball team suffered a disappointing loss to a tough Gustavus Adolphus team by a score of 62 to 51.

Ole women split a double header against St.Marys and Iowa State
DECEMBER 3, 2001 — The St. Olaf women?s swimming and diving team had an exhausting weekend of competition. The Oles traveled to Winona on Friday, November 30th, to take on St. Mary's. St. Olaf was victorious 155-63. Saturday, December 1, the Oles hosted Iowa State and lost 181-119 to the Division I team.

Ole men swimmers dominate over St. Mary's
DECEMBER 3, 2001 — The St. Olaf men's swimming and diving team traveled to Winona Friday, November 30th, to take on conference opponent St. Mary's. The Ole men won all thirteen events on their way to an easy victory over the Cardinals 158-67.

Womens hockey drop two games to Concordia
DECEMBER 3, 2001 — The Ole women faced the Concordia Cobbers in a two-game series. St. Olaf lost the first game 4-0 and the second game 4-1.

Ole wrestlers fall at River Falls over the weekend
DECEMBER 3, 2001 — The St. Olaf wrestling team traveled to the University of Wisconsin-River Falls to compete in the UW-River Falls Duals. The Oles took on tough teams from Concordia-Wisconsin, Luther College, Itasca Community College, and William Penn University.

Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. to speak at St. Olaf on Friday, Dec. 7
DECEMBER 3, 2001 — Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. will be the featured speaker on the topic of "Legal Action Against Giant Animal Factories" at St. Olaf College on Friday, Dec. 7, 10:45 a.m., in the Black and Gold Ballroom, Buntrock Commons. This is the last of a seven-city Water Keeper Alliance Tri-State Whistle Stop Tour through three Midwestern states and the only stop in which Kennedy appears.

St. Olaf men lose MIAC opener to GAC
DECEMBER 3, 2001 — The St. Olaf men's basketball team fell to Gustavus Adolphus 81-60 in the MIAC opener for both schools.
