Oles hold on to win over Hamline, 58-56

The St. Olaf men's basketball team fended a second half run from Hamline University, defeating the Pipers 58-56 at Hutton Arena in St. Paul on Wednesday, December 12.

Jeb Johnson (Sr., Wadena, Minn./Wadena-Deer Creek H.S.) led the Oles with 19 points on seven-of-eight shooting. The Ole's Mike Ludwig (Jr., Blaine, Minn.) and Matt Schlenker (So., Rochester, Minn./ Mayo H.S.) were also in double-figures, collecting 13 and ten points respectively. Schlenker also added nine rebounds, five assists, three blocks and two steals in the win.

Mike Robison (Sr., Richfield, Minn.) led the Pipers with 21 points and 13 boards. Robison was ten of 25 from the field.

St. Olaf never trailed throughout the game. The Oles took a 9-0 lead, and led by as many as 13 in the first half. The Pipers battled back, shooting 50 percent from the field in the second half to the Oles 27.6 percent. With the win, St. Olaf improves to 5-3 overall and 2-2 in MIAC play. Hamline, winless in MIAC play, falls to 1-7 overall with the loss.

The Oles will take a nine-day break for finals, before returning to action on Friday, December 21, for a non-conference dual at Crown College of St. Bonafacious, Minn. The game will begin at 7:00 p.m. and can be heard on the 920 AM, KDHL.
