Cole, Fulton compete at Nationals
November 19, 2001
Despite not qualifying as a team, St. Olaf sent two individuals to compete at the NCAA Championships in Rock Island, IL on Saturday, November 17.
Andrew Cole (Sr., North Mankato, Minn.) and Kelly Fulton (Fy., Billings,Mont.) represented St. Olaf in a field of the nation's finest Division III's runners. Cole capped off his harrier career with a 64th place finish. His 25:27 time over the 8k course placed him as the MIAC's sixth finisher. After cruising through the first four miles in good striking position, Fulton succumbed to the heat and humidity conditions and dropped out of the race.
While the UW-LaCrosse harriers paced to an easy team victory, Haverford senior, J B. Haglund, tore through the course in 24:16 to capture the individual title. St. Thomas represented the MIAC, claiming fifth place, behind junior Brian Preus's 20th place finish. Hamline junior Tom Kreger's gutsy 19th place performance, placed him as the MIAC's top finisher and rallied the Pipers to a 21st place.
