St. Olaf men are victorious over Luther

The St. Olaf men's basketball team defeated Luther College 84-62 in a non-conference game Tuesday night, November 20, in Decorah, Iowa.
Matt Schlenker (So., Rochester, Minn./Mayo) led St. Olaf, recording his first career double-double, with19 points and 11 rebounds in the win. The Oles had three other players in double figures in the game. Mike Ludwig (Jr.,Blaine, Minn.) led all scorers with 27, while Jeb Johnson (Sr., Wadena,Minn./Wadena-Deer Creek) and Justin Bonestroo (Jr., Stillwater, Minn.) added 14 and ten points respectively.
Luther led briefly in the early minutes of the game, by as many as eight (16-8), before St. Olaf took control of the game. The Norse shot well in the first frame, 47 percent from the field including 6-11 from three point, which kept them in the game.
In the second half, however, Luther shot 27 percent from the floor and just 2-for-12 from the arc. The Oles capitalized, outscoring the Norse by 16 in the second half. The Oles had a slim lead at the half, 39-33. Adam Morrisey had 15 and Justin Taiber had 12 points for Luther in the loss.
With the win, St. Olaf improves to 2-1 while Luther drops to 0-2. The Oles will enjoy the Thanksgiving weekend and will resume action when they play Northwestern of Roseville in their home opener at 7 PM, Monday, November 26. The game is free of admission and can be heard on 920 AM, KDHL.
