Ole Women's Soccer Beat Bethel 1-0

Anna Rehder
September 19, 2001

Conference games are the biggest part of a college soccer team?s season. Therefore, winning the first conference game of the season was a great starting point for the Oles in their quest for a MIAC championship.

The Oles traveled to Bethel Tuesday, September 18, 2001 to play the Royals. The game started with neither team spending much time possessing the ball. It remained scoreless for the first half until the 31st minute when Bethel committed a foul just outside of the penalty area. Karen Hamre (Sr. , Roseville, Minn.) took the restart kick and hit a nice ball that struck the crossbar and rebounded back into the field of play. The Ole forwards followed the shot and Kristi Parks (So, Plymouth, Minn.) wound up putting both the ball and the keeper in the back of the net. That was to be the only goal of the game. The rest of the game was fairly even and rough. Bethel ended up with ten shots while the Oles tallied only nine. Both teams committed a total of 14 fouls. St. Olaf had quite a few more chances from the corner with nine corner kicks to Bethel?s two.

The 1-0 win for the Oles gives them an undefeated 1-0 record in conference and a 4-1 record overall. Their next game is at home for their second conference contest at 1:00 pm Saturday, September 22 versus the College of St. Benedict.
