On Wednesday, September 19 the St. Olaf Men?s Soccer team hosted conference opponent Bethel College. The Oles entered the contest 0-2 looking to get their first tally in the win column. Bethel entered the game with a 3-2 record.

The Oles came out strong in the first half controlling much of the possession, but were unable to finish any of their chances. The half showed no scoring from either side. In the second half, the Oles had a barrage of scoring chances, but none found the back of the net. Regulation play ended in a 0-0 tie. Overtime proved to be much like the first ninety minutes of play. Thirty more minutes passed with neither team scoring. The Oles would have to settle for a 0-0 tie. The team felt they played well enough to win, but just didn?t finish their chances. The Oles outshot the Royals 24-13 and had seven corner kicks to four for the Royals. Ross MacMullen (Sr., Birchwood, Minn.) posted his first shutout of the season with the help of solid play from the Ole defense.

The Oles will next be in action on Saturday, September 22 and Sunday, September 23 when they travel to Oshkosh, WI for the UW- Oshkosh Tournament. Saturday?s game time is 1:00 pm and the Oles will kickoff at 12:00 pm on Sunday. The Oles next home game is at 1:00 pm, Sunday, September 30 when the Oles host non-conference opponent Colorado College at Rolf Mellby Memorial Field on the campus of St. Olaf College.
