Turbulent wind and rain didn't hold back the St. Olaf men's cross country team, as they raced to a first place victory in Saturday's 15 team St. Olaf Invitational.

In the 31st annual race, the 22nd nationally ranked Oles toed the line against approximately 220 collegiate and open runners. Although St. Thomas and St. John's opted to race only their junior varsity runners, the Oles scored an impressively low 23 points in defeating runner-up UW-Stout as well as the rest of the field.

Andrew Cole (Sr, North Mankato, Minn) finished first amongst collegiate runners, and fourth overall, to lead an Ole attack that placed its top seven runners in the top ten finishers of the race.

Kelly Fulton (Fy, Billings, Mont) finished the 8k course behind Cole as the Oles second runner, and claimed third overall. Peder Arneson (So, Montevideo, Minn) followed Fulton and finished in fifth. Christopher Coffey (Jr, Dubuque, Ia.) crossed the line in sixth and was closely chased by Malcolm Richards (Fy, Minneapolis, Minn). Rob Hillard (Jr, Columbia, Missouri) and Joel Tortomasi (Jr, Beloit, Wis) finished ninth and tenth overall to round out the Oles varsity seven.

The black and gold harriers will split the squad this upcoming weekend. The top twelve runners will lace up at 9:30 AM, Saturday, September 29 at the Roy Griak Invitational at the University of Minnesota while the majority of the team will race at 4:00 PM on Friday, September 28 at the JV Classic hosted by St. Olaf.
