Volleyball Takes St. Catherine in Three
September 27, 2001
The St. Olaf Volleyball team started a long stretch of away games by challenging College of St. Catherine?s in St. Paul on Wednesday, September 26. This match was a successful step toward the Ole?s path to a conference title. It was also a match of high goals for the women, setting particular standards for their own skills during the match.
The team worked on a fast paced offense with a solid serve-receive to assist the pace of the match. Nicole Trnka (Sr., Morristown, Minn.?Bethlehem Academy) was named MIAC player of the week and proved worthy of the title, while racking up statistics such as a 0.875 Attack Percentage with 21 kills. The team hit 0.424 attack percentage and put down 14 total blocks. The games went quickly, with only one small slump in the second game when the Oles were thrown off by a rotation of serve receive. But the Oles never let the Wildcats take the lead and stopped their run at 21-20 and moved on to win the game and match. The Oles record now lies at 13-0, remaining undefeated.
The match was won 30-14, 30-22, and 30-14. The Oles now move their focus to a big week against St. Mary?s University, at 7:30 PM, Wednesday, October 3. The remaining games for that week are Hamline, October 5, and then Bethel, October 6th. The next home game for the Oles is Wednesday, October 10 against Macalester.
