Ole Mens Soccer Wins 2-1
September 27, 2001
On Wednesday, September 26 the St. Olaf men?s soccer team traveled to St. Paul to take on conference opponent Hamline University. The Oles entered the game 1-3-1, coming off their first win over the past weekend. The Oles started the game confidently creating multiple chances for themselves. The Oles had the Pipers on their heels, but unfortunately the Oles conceded the first goal of the game. Hamline scored midway through the first half on a long shot and deflection past Ole goalkeeper, Ross MacMullan (Sr., Birchwood, Minn.). The Oles equaled the match when Ben Clymer (Jr., Hudson, Wis.) crossed a ball to Erlend Johnsen (Jr., Akershus, Norway). Johnsen slipped it by the Hamline keeper for his first goal of the season. The Oles entered halftime knotted at 1-1.
In the second half the Oles created more chances, but didn?t break through until midway through the half when Kyle Swanson (Sr., Cottage Grove, Minn.) slotted the ball past the Hamline keeper with an assist from a Gaute Johnsen (Jr., Akershus, Norway). Swanson?s goal ended up being the game winner. The Oles ended the game as 2-1 victors. The Oles record moves to 2-3-1 overall and 1-0-1 in the M.I.A.C.
The Oles are next in action at 4:00 pm, Saturday, September 29 when they travel to play conference opponent, Concordia College. The Oles next home game is at 1:00 pm, Sunday, September 30 when they host non-conference opponent Colorado College at Rolf Mellby Memorial Field on the campus of St. Olaf College.
