St. Olaf College Homecoming, Family Weekend will enliven campus, Oct. 5-7

NORTHFIELD, Minn. ? St. Olaf College students, faculty, alumni and friends will celebrate Homecoming and Family Weekend with a busy lineup of athletic contests, concerts and other campus activities Friday through Sunday, Oct 5­ 7.

Homecoming and Family Weekend includes a number of special events for the St. Olaf community, but many activities are free and open to the public. The annual celebration is coordinated by the college?s Alumni and Parent Relations Office.

Homecoming and Family Weekend also will showcase the musical achievements of St. Olaf students. The annual Family Weekend concert, at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29, in Skoglund Center Auditorium, will feature the Norseman Band, the Manitou Singers and the Viking Chorus. On Saturday, Oct. 6, at 8 p.m. in Skoglund Athletic Center, the St. Olaf Orchestra will present a concert.

Members of Companydance, the St. Olaf College student modern dance troupe, will present an informal showing of faculty and student works-in-progress at 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 5, in the new Dittmann Center Studio One. This event is free and open to the public.

The Crawdaddies will also be holding a concert on Friday, Oct. 5, at 7 p.m. at the Boe Memorial Chapel Plaza.

A 5-K Wellness Run will depart from Skoglund Center Fieldhouse at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Oct 6. Registration for the run begins at 8:15 a.m. in Skoglund.

St. Olaf President Christopher M. Thomforde will serve as Grand Marshall for the traditional St. Olaf College Homecoming Parade which begins at noon on Saturday, Oct. 6 at the corner of Division and 7th Streets. The parade will proceed north on Division Street to 2nd Street where it will then cross the bridge and Highway 3, travelling north on Linden Street and then west along St. Olaf Avenue where it will end at the college. There will be a number of colorful floats representing all aspects of campus community life and a marching pep band.

There are two home athletic events scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 6. The St. Olaf football team will face the Bethel Royals on Manitou Field at 1 p.m., and the women?s soccer team will take on rival Gustavus Adolphus at the Mellby Soccer Bowl at 1 p.m.

The weekend features a number of other activities, including tours, a BBQ, receptions, seminars, reunions, dinners and programs for children and teens.

St. Olaf College prepares students to become responsible citizens of the world, fostering development of mind, body and spirit. A four-year, coeducational liberal arts college of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), St. Olaf has a student enrollment of 2,950 and a full-time faculty of approximately 256.
