Ole Mens Tennis Gains Split over the Weekend

The St. Olaf Men?s tennis team took the court this past weekend in St. Cloud to face two Division II teams in Winona State University and St. Cloud State University
The Oles wasted no time against Winona State. Senior Pete Nau (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) and junior Karl Wilbur (Edina, Minn.) pulled out a close one at No. 1 doubles . The dominating duo of first-years Ted and Tom Nagel, respectively known as "The Twin Towers" from Oglesby, Illinois crushed their opponent at No. 2 doubles. At No. 3 doubles, junior Brandon Hall (Dubuque, Iowa) and sophomore Peder Thoen (Kolsas, Norway ) also won easily.
The Oles continued their dominance in singles, added junior Timothy Smith (Eden Prairie, Minn.) and first-year Dan Cohen (St. Paul, Minn.) to the singles lineup and did not lose a step, as both won their respective matches easily. The Oles won the match 9-0 and looked forward to playing the St. Cloud State Huskies which proved to be a very tough match.
The Nagel Brothers won a close match at No. 2 doubles, but both No. 1 doubles of Nau and Wilbur and No. 3 doubles of Hall and Thoen lost. Down 2-1 in the match, the Oles singles took the court and fought competitively. Nau lost a close three set match at No. 1 singles, while Wilbur did the same at No.2. Peder Thoen lost a close match at No. 3 singles as did his doubles partner Hall at No. 4. Ted Nagel won a close match while Tom Nagel lost a tight one.
The Oles lost the match 7-2 for a 1-1 split on the day. The Oles are 9-2 and play MIAC rival Gustavus Adolphus College this coming weekend at 3:30 on Saturday, April 7 at St. Olaf.
