Ole Womens Tennis Sweeps St. Marys

The St. Olaf women?s tennis team dominated St. Mary?s University 9-0 in a home match on April 3, bringing their record to 9-2 overall.
Rebekah Van Wieren (Sr., Holland, Mich.) got the Oles on track at No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-4 and Janelle Sagness (So., Mankato, Minn.) followed suit at No. 2, defeating her opponent 6-4, 6-4. At No. 3 singles it took Alyssa Derksen (Sr., Appleton, Wis.) three sets to overtake her opponent 6-3, 4-6, 6-2. Bethany Kochsiek (Jr., Lacrosee, Wis.) won at No. 4 singles 6-0, 6-1, while Yvonne Yang (So., Appleton, Wis.) and Jamie Brau (FY, Arlington, Minn.) recorded wins at No. 5 and 6 singles respectively, 6-1, 6-0 and 6-1, 6-0.
After sweeping the singles matches, the doubles shaped up much the same. The No. 1 team of Yang and Sagness won 8-5, as well as the No. 2 doubles team of Kochsiek and Lindsay Gorham (Jr., Wenatchee, Wash.), going 8-4. The No. 3 doubles team of Brau and Abigail Betts (Jr., Bethesda, Md) took the last win of the day at 8-5.
The Oles next contest will be at 3:30 on Friday, April 6 at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. The Regional Tournament will take place the following weekend, April 13-14 in Madison, Wis.
