Kurt Anderson named Head Coach of Mens and Womens Soccer

NORTHFIELD, MINN ? April 19, 2001 St. Olaf College announced today that Kurt Anderson will become the head coach of its women?s soccer program in addition to his responsibilities as head coach of men?s soccer. Anderson, currently in his 12th year as men?s soccer coach and among the top 50 Division III soccer coaches in winning percentage, will oversee both programs beginning this fall.

He is taking over the reins of the women?s program from Judy Stromayer, who is taking on the role of sports information director at the college. Stromayer will continue her role as coordinator of outdoor recreation and she will teach in the physical education department as well. In her seven seasons, the Oles had a 70-68-6 record. Anderson holds a 131-75-11 record in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) (192-113-21 overall). In the Division III Men?s Soccer Winningest Active Coaches? List, Anderson is ranked number 42 by percentage of wins. The Oles have had two NCAA tournament appearances under Anderson. In 1998 the Oles were MIAC Champions at 9-1-0 (15-4-0) and received an NCAA Regional play-off berth. St. Olaf completed the 1999 season with a 9-1-0 record (17-2-1) and second place in the MIAC. The Oles went on to defeat Luther College 3-0 in the NCAA tournament and fell in the second round to Wheaton 2-1 in double overtime. Anderson holds a master of science degree in exercise science from Drake University. He is also an instructor in the Physical Education Department and serves as an assistant baseball coach.
