St. Olaf Womens Tennis downs Nebraska Wesleyan

The St. Olaf women?s tennis played another great match against visiting Nebraska Wesleyan. The Oles took the match 6-3 and upped their record to 12-5 overall. Coach Scott Nesbit commented after the match that the day "was full of a lot of really good matches; including two three setters in singles and three close matches in doubles." After being down 2-1 from the doubles matches, the Oles came back to win five of the six singles.
Rebekah VanWieren (Sr., Holland, Mich.) won at No. 1 singles 7-5, 2-6, 7-6 while Janelle Sagness (So., Mankato, Minn.) dropped her match at No. 2 singles 6-7, 1-6. Alyssa Derksen (Sr., Appleton, Wis.) took a three set match at No. 3 singles 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 and at No. 4 singles Bethany Kochsiek (Jr., La Crosse, Wis.) won in two sets 6-1, 6-3. Jamie Brau (FY, Arlington, Minn.) defeated her opponent at No. 5 singles 6-1, 6-3 and Lindsay Gorham (Jr., Wenatchee, Wa.) won at No. 6 singles 7-6, 6-1.
VanWieren and Derksen lost at No. 1 doubles 8-6 as did Sagness and Abigail Betts (Jr., Bethesda, Md.) at No. 2 doubles 9-8. Kochsiek and Gorham won their No. 3 doubles match 8-6 .
The Oles next match is Tuesday, May 1st, against cross-town rival, Carleton College at 3:30 p.m. The conference tournament will be played this coming Friday and Saturday, May 4-5 in Northfield; the tournament is hosted by St. Olaf College and play begins at 9:00 a.m.
