Womens Tennis Suffers First Loss to Gustavus

The St. Olaf Women's team , after starting out 2-0, suffered their first loss on March 2nd, to the powerhouse of the MIAC conference Gustavus Adolphus.

Rebekah van Wieren from Holland, Michigan lost 3-6, 0-6 at #1 singles, Janelle Sagness from Mankato, MN lost 2-6, 4-6 at #2 singles, Jennifer Ison from Urbana, Illinois lost 6-0, 6-3 at #3 singles, Alyssa Derksen from Appleton, Wisconsin lost 6-0, 6-2 at #4 singles, Yvonne Yang also from Appleton, Wisconsin lost 6-1, 6-2 at #5 singles, while #6 singles lost in three sets 7-5, 0-6, 1-6.

In doubles, van Wieren and Derksen lost at #1 2-8, #2 doubles of Sagness and Ison lost 1-8, and Yvonne Yang and Lindsay Gorham from Wenatchee, Washington lost 2-8.

The Oles lost 0-9, but Coach Scott Nesbit said the women played hard. Coach Nesbit commented that going up against such great competition is always good because as a player you learn what you need to work on to get better.
