Daymont Receives All-American Honors
March 12, 2001
The St. Olaf Women's Track and Field Team sent two individuals to the NCAA Championship meet held last weekend in Osh Kosh, Wisconsin.
Competing in her second indoor National Meet sophomore Megan Daymont (Northfield, Minn.) came home with All-American Honors. Daymont finished 5th in the 1500 meter race, with a time of 4:37.96. That time is the second best time she has ever run, behind her time of 4:37.00 run in the preliminary heat. Daymont ran two great races, and showed a new level of confidence and maturity from just a year ago at this meet.
Senior co-captain Janet Hengel (Sartell, Minn.)finished in 7th place in the pole vault in her second indoor National Meet. Hengel cleared 10'10.75" and just missed All- American status. Hengel cleared the first three heights on her first attempts and had three great attempts at 11'4". Both athletes qualified for last year's outdoor NCAA Championship Meet. Last year Hengel earned All-American Honors in the pole vault and Daymont finished 10th in the 800 meters. Both are looking forward to the outdoor season and the opportunity to compete at the NCAA outdoor National Meet.
