NORTHFIELD, Minn. ? St. Olaf College?s 100-voice Manitou Singers will perform for more than 6,500 choral directors during the annual American Choral Directors Association national convention Wednesday through Saturday, March 14-17, in San Antonio, Texas.

The Manitou Singers, conducted by St. Olaf music faculty member Sigrid Johnson, will perform on three occasions, in three different auditoriums. This marks the second time that a St. Olaf music ensemble has been invited to perform for the nation?s most respected choral directors association. Two years ago the St. Olaf Choir sang for the ACDA in Chicago.

Johnson?s ensemble will sing in the Lila Cockrell Theater, the San Antonio Municipal Auditorium and the Scottish Rite Library Museum Auditorium. Concerts are being performed at several San Antonio venues, but discussion sessions and exhibits are in San Antonio?s Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center.

The Manitou Singers is comprised entirely of first-year women students. One of the most popular music organizations on campus, the 100-voice choir performs at the college?s opening worship service, several daily chapel services, the annual St. Olaf Christmas Festival, the Family Weekend Concert and a spring concert in April. The organization?s repertoire ranges from sacred to secular to popular ballads.

St. Olaf College prepares students to become responsible citizens of the world, fostering development of mind, body and spirit. A four-year, coeducational liberal arts college of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), St. Olaf has a student enrollment of 2,950 and a full-time faculty complement of approximately 300. It is one of Money Guide?s top 100 "elite values in college education today," and it leads the nation?s colleges in percentage of students who study abroad.
