St. Olaf music faculty members Anne Adams, Nancy Paddleford to present recital

NORTHFIELD, Minn. ? Music for mezzo-soprano and piano will be presented in a recital by St. Olaf College music faculty members Anne D?Oyley Adams and Nancy Paddleford on Monday, March 26.

The recital, free and open to the public, will be at 8:15 p.m., in Urness Recital Hall, Christiansen Hall of Music, St. Olaf College. Adams and Paddleford will perform "Winterreise," by Franz Schubert and Wilhelm Müller.

Anne Adams, mezzo-soprano, joined the St. Olaf faculty in September 2000 as assistant professor of voice. She holds a B.A. in German Studies and a B.Mus. in voice performance from Oberlin College, a M.Mus. in voice performance from the Manhattan School of Music, and an M.A. in music theory and a D.M.A. in voice performance from the University of Michigan, where she also taught voice and ear training.

An avid proponent of contemporary music, Adams is a member of the Brave New Works ensemble based in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and has sung numerous premieres of contemporary operas and chamber works, including an evening of music written for her by Michigan composers.

Most recently Adams has appeared with the Waukegan Symphony, the Alma Symphony Orchestra, the Ann Arbor Art Song Festival, and Contemporary Directions, and she has served as a member of the New York City Opera Chorus.

Nancy Paddleford earned a master?s degree in piano performance from Indiana University and a doctor of musical arts degree from the University of Minnesota. She has studied with pianists György Sebök, Bernhard Weiser and Alfonso Montecino, and has studied chamber music with Janos Starker, Josef Gingold, William Primrose and Franco Gulli, in addition to performing in master classes by Leon Fleischer.

Paddleford has been an artist-in-residence at the University of Costa Rica. She has performed both as a soloist and with other musicians in the United States, Costa Rica, France, Germany and Switzerland. She was an invited performer in the 1993 International Festival of Music in Costa Rica and returned in 1995 for a performance at the National Theater of San José as part of the same festival.
