Rosalyra String Quartet to perform at St. Olaf College

NORTHFIELD, Minn. ? The internationally acclaimed Rosalyra String Quartet will perform a guest recital at St. Olaf College on Wednesday, March 28.

The recital, free and open to the public, will be at 8:15 p.m. in Urness Recital Hall, Christiansen Hall of Music.

The ensemble will perform "Quartet in D Major, K. 575" by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart; "Quartet in F Major" by Maurice Ravel; and Quartet in C Major, Opus 59 #3" by Ludwig van Beethoven.

Founded in 1988, the Rosalyra String Quartet is comprised of principal chair players from the Minnesota Orchestra and the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra. The members of the quartet include Sarah Kwak and Fenneth Fred, violins; Sabina Thatcher, viola; and Beth Rapier, cello.

The ensemble has performed in programs throughout the United States including Chicago?s Dame Myra Hess Memorial Concert Series and New York?s People?s Symphony Concert Series and the New School Concert Series.

In 2000, the Rosalyra Quartet was awarded the prestigious McKnight Foundation Artists Award and in 1991, received high honors at the Glory of Mozart International Chamber Music Competition in Canada. The ensemble also opened the Festival Mozart in Lille, France the same year.

Other awards for the group include the top prize for string quartet at the 1990 Fischoff Competition and first prize at the St. Cloud Chamber Music Society's International Competition for String Quartets in 1989.

The Rosalyra Quartet has served as quartet-in-residence at the Pensacola Summer Music Festival in Florida and also the Minnesota Orchestra?s Summer Chamber Music Series. The ensemble performed on the premiere broadcast of Minnesota Public Radio?s "Lund?s Presents" series. The Rosalyra Quartet?s current recording features quartets by Beethoven and Bartok.
