First Half Run Leads Scots Over Oles
January 8, 2001
Macalester College used a 21-2 run midway through the first half to defeat St. Olaf 84-62.
Doug Benson led six Scots in double figures with 18 points to give Macalester their third conference win. Mike Ludwig (So., Blaine, Minn.) scored 15 points, all in the second half for the Oles, who are still searching for their first MIAC win. First-year Matt Schlenker (Rochester, Minn.) added 11 points and 7 rebounds for the Oles in a losing effort.
Trailing 17-11 in the first half, St. Olaf was plagued by foul trouble when Ludwig picked up his third foul with more than ten minutes to play. Ole head coach Dan Kosmoski was forced to sit Ludwig for the duration of the half. When St. Olaf called their next time out, Macalester led 38-13. The Oles battled back in the second half, but were only able to cut the lead to 16.
The Oles return home on Monday night to host the Pipers of Hamline University at 7:30 p.m. at Skoglund Athletic Center. The Pipers are searching for their first win this season. Hamline is coming off a 90-88 defeat at the hands of Carleton on Wednesday night.
